Father Christmas - Lefty of the month,
December
|
 |
 |
|
|
We are proud and delighted to announce that Father
Christmas, (a.k.a. "Santa Clause") has shown himself to be a proud left-hander,
and is now an Honorary Member of The Left-Handers Club!
As these exclusive pictures show, F.C. is a natural
left-hand writer with a good writing position. He told us " I get so many
wonderful letters from children, and always reply personally, so I spend lots
of time writing. I have a special left-handed pen, which simply flies across the
pages" (helped along with his special magic ink).
|
|
No one can doubt that dear old Santa takes left-handers
renowned creativity to new heights, with his ingenious methods of entering every
home undetected, weighed down by parcels to leave by the fireplace. He is also
known to be a talented musician, leading the Elves Chorus in rousing renditions
of such enduring favourites as "Jingle Bells" and "Rudolf the Red
Nosed Reindeer" and many other songs which have now become popular throughout
the world.
Always modest, Father Christmas lists his greatest
pleasure as reading wonderful stories to children, since he had to retire from
his great passion of reindeer racing, due to an injured leg. Now he often uses
a walking stick - held in his strong left hand of course!

Sir Paul McCartney - Lefty of the month,
November
|
 |
 |
|
|
Rocker Paul McCartney led an all-star line-up including Mick Jagger, Elton John,
David Bowie, The Who, Eric Clapton and Destinys Child at a New York concert to
raise money for victims of the recent terrorist attacks in the US. The six-hour
Concert For New York bash, perhaps the largest showing of its kind since 1985s
Live Aid, featured both appearances by Hollywood celebs Gwyneth Paltrow and Leonardo
DiCaprio and short films from celebrated directors Martin Scorsese and Woody Allen
as thousands celebrated the spirit of New York and particularly the city's rescue
workers. |
Like everyone else, I thought, I want to do something,
says Paul, who performed in a New York fire department t-shirt. You know, Im
not a fireman, Im not a rescue worker, so theres no point in me really going
down there. Ive got to think of something else. And then a friend of mine, the
head of Miramax films, Harvey Weinstein, started twisting my arm. He said, Will
you do this show? This is a good one. So I realised that instead of doing lots
of little shows, and split the effort, it would be good to do this. |

Prince William - lefty of the month,
October
|
 |
 |
|
|
Prince
William was photographed writing his message of sympathy in the book of condolences
at the American Consulate in Edinburgh earlier this month. In his rather awkward
hooked left-hand style, he wrote the simple message " With Deepest Sympathy,
love from William". |
| Prince William's handwriting style
has often attracted attention at public engagements, most famously when he signed
in on his first day at Eton, watched by his mother, Princess Diana. Proving the
versatility of left-handers, William has become a successful polo player, despite
having to learn to play right-handed. The rules of polo do not allow players to
use their left hand. |
