Using images for your affiliate links

As an affiliate, you have permission to use any of the images on our web site to create links to us. We have put a selection below, or you can find any image you want, right click on it and choose "Save As..." to save it on your local disk. You can then add it to you web page and create the affiliate link to us.

The URL for the affiliate link is the same format as for text links...

http://www.anythingleft-handed.co.uk/cgi-bin/t.cgi?a=123456

You shoulds also create and Alt Tag for the each image containing relevant keywords for your target visitors

See below for how to link direct to a detailed product or information page and how to add keyword information for your own analysis.

Here is an example using our logo in 100 x 100 pixel size

Anything Left Handed offers a huge range of Left Handed products, lots of information and FREE newsletters, the original left-handed shop since 1968.

Save this image to a directory on your web site called "images" under the domain root

  • Right click on the image then select "save as... "
  • Navigate to the correct directory on your local computer
  • Upload the image to the "/images/" sub-directory on your web server

You can use the code in the box below to create this image link (change the part a=123456 to replace 123456 with your affiliate ID number and change the location of the image to match where you upload it to on your own website)

Note that this code contains target="_blank" after the affiliate URL - this will open our web page in a new browser window so that if the visitor closed our web page they will still have your site window open. This is not necessary but is usually a good way to do things. You can just remove that bit of code if you do not want it.

c) Highlight the code for the text link by left-click and hold before <!-- START then drag to cover --END>.

d) Copy this code to the clipboard (e.g., click Edit on the menu, then Copy)

e) Open your web page in the editor and make sure the cursor is where you want to place the new link

f) Paste the code from the clipboard into your page document (e.g., click Edit on the menu, then Paste). You should see the code appear in your page document and it should have lots of html brackets in it - "<" and ">".

If you are seeing things like &lt; and &quot; in the link code, you may not have been in the proper editing mode and will need to go back and paste it again (e.g. in DreamWeaver you need to be in the code view window and click on the text you want to edit so the line numbers at the left go dark blue)

g) Change the 123456 to your own affiliate ID number and change images/ to the directory on your web site where you have saved the image ALH_100.jpg

h) Preview the revised page in a web browser to make sure it looks as it should.

h) Save the revised page.

Linking direct to a product or information page on our web site

You can target your link to any page on our site and still have the affiliate cookie created in the same way and the visitor click-through and any resulting sale recorded on your affiliate account. All you need to do is add this to your normal affiliate link url

&e=[pagename]

Change [pagename] to the name of the target page within our site, you can leave off the domain name to shorten the link. Here are some examples...

To link to the index page of our online shop:
Full URL is http://www.anythingleft-handed.co.uk/acatalog/index.html

pagename to add on to your affiliate link &e=acatalog/index.html
(or in this case, just &e=acatalog/ as index.html is the default page name for that sub-directory)
So the full link code will look like this

http://www.anythingleft-handed.co.uk/cgi-bin/t.cgi?a=123456&e=acatalog/index.html

To link to our top level Childrens Products category page
Full URL is http://www.anythingleft-handed.co.uk/acatalog/childrens_products.html

pagename to add on to your affiliate link acatalog/childrens_products.html
So the full link code will look like this

http://www.anythingleft-handed.co.uk/cgi-bin/t.cgi?a=123456&e=acatalog/childrens_products.html

A direct link to a product that is relevant to your site content will often get the best click-throughs and sales conversions. For example, if your page is about scissors, you could link direct to our best-selling left-handed scissors (product code 259) like this.

1) You can get the full url for the page by navigating to it and then copying it from the broswer address bar

Full URL for the 259 scissor page is
http://www.anythingleft-handed.co.uk/acatalog/general_purpose_scissors_black_grip.html

Depending how you navigate to the page, you may see the product code at the end of the URL like this
http://www.anythingleft-handed.co.uk/acatalog/general_purpose_scissors_black_grip.html#a259

the #259 is just an anchor tag that positions the product properly on our site and you can ignore it in your own link URL

pagename to add on to your affiliate link &e=acatalog/general_purpose_scissors_black_grip.html

2) Select the image for the product in the size that you want, either our small image (named 259_s.gif 100 x 65 pixels) from the category listing

Or the bigger image from the detailed product page (named 259_b.gif 250 x 163 pixels)

(the best way to get the images you want is to navigate our site to display them, then right click on the required image and "Save As..." to put it on your own disk)

2) Once you have the image on your page you can add some Alt Tag text with relevant keywords and also add the link URL as in the code example below.

Change the part a=123456 to replace 123456 with your affiliate ID number and change the location of the image acatalog/256_b.gif to match where you upload it to on your own website. If you are using a different sized image, change the height and width setting to match as well (or remove them)

Other ideas for promoting your affiliate links

You can add your affiliate URL at the end of your emails and put either text or image links into your newsletters or other customer communications.

All of your links will work best if you can make a personal recommendation near them to say how you have used and benefited from our left-handed products.

Pay Per Click Marketing - Google AdWords and Overture

We are happy for affiliates to use Pay Per Click marketing to promote their affiliate links to us but we must avoid breaking the advertising rules or causing conflicts between Anything Left-Handed and our affiliates.

We do not allow bidding on our company name "Anything Left-Handed" or any variations of it and we do not allow affiliates to use our site domain "anythingleft-handed" or any variations of it as either the displayed or target URL in pay-per-click adverts.

Pay Per Click can be a very effective way to attract visitors but you should make sure they are being linked to YOUR web site first so that you can pre-sell them and make your recommendations and THEN get them to click your affiliate link to us.

Any sales that result from a direct click-through from a Pay Per Click advert to our site will not qualify for affiliate commisions

Banners you can use as affiliate links

We are producing some banners in standard sizes - right click the images you want then "Save As" to save them on your own disk so you can upload them to your website. Don't forget to include your affiliate link with the image on your page (see above)

Suggested product images

These are some images of our most popular products and some action shots that you can use for links to us. You can copy and paste small sections of text from our site of you wish but it usually works best if you adapt the text to fit the content and style of your site and make sure you add your own comments and recommendations about the products. As before, right click the images you want then "Save As" to save them on your own disk so you can upload them to your website. Don't forget to include your affiliate link with the image on your page (see above)

Product description text
General purpose scissors, black handles 216mm / 8.5 in. (code 259)

Slim and lightweight, with a very comfortable grip, this new scissor is perfect for the office or study and combines nice style with a great price!

First scissor 125mm / 5 in., age 4 - 7 (code 134)

These sturdy, lightweight scissors with brightly coloured plastic moulded grips and stainless steel blades are an ideal junior scissor. These safety scissors have rounded ends, but proper sharpened blades for cutting paper and thin material, so adult supervision is needed at all times.
Tin opener with geared rotary action (Red) (code 94)

A good quality left-handed tin opener with roller cutter and geared action for easy opening. Positioned on the left side of the tin and turned with the left-hand in a natural motion for left-handers.

T Pattern corkscrew (code 67)

Traditional design with beech wood handle and, of course, a left-hand twist! New design spiral is the same as the professiona\l waiter's corkscrew. Make opening your bottles a pleasure by turning the corkscrew in your natural direction. Leave it laying around for right-handers to use (or not!) and they will see the difficulty you normally face.

Bread knife 20cm / 8in. blade, black handle (code 297)

One of our most popular items. If you can't cut bread straight, you need one of these! Blade serrated on the right side for a clean, straight and safe cut in the left-hand.

  The correct way

The serrations are on the right side of the blade to counterbalance the natural twisting motion of the left hand, thus giving a straight cut.
  The wrong way

The serrations on a normal bread knife exaggerate the natural twisting motion of the left hand leading to a curved slice and an overhanging loaf.

There are lots of images of our main products in use and descriptions of how they are left-handed on our page called "What makes our products left-handed?"
